Percy Brooks lived in a rough neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His parents, Brian and Joan Brooks married for a long time. Percy lives with his father, but never knew his mother. She's around but she did not stay with them.
Percy was a beautiful baby. He had curly hair when he was born. His parents had a good relationship, but his mother left him and her husband. Percy used to visit his mother often but mostly lived with his father. He loved his mother and wanted her to come home.
Brian Brooks has dark skin, and he wears glasses. He also sells incense and his son Percy sells them. For a while, his dad took a break was at home. Brian Brooks likes to wear color summer shirts and shorts around his house and leaves his shirt open. Brian likes to wear sandals.
Joan Brooks has a brown complexion, and dark, black, short hair. Joan never worked in her but was unemployed. She still cared for her son but needed to have her own place.
One day, Percy's father came home from selling incense and wanted to relax with a Newport. He opened his shirt. Percy was on the couch watching television. Next, Brian told Percy to go with him to the store.
"Boy, let's go to the store," said Brian.
"Okay," said Percy.
Brian locked the door and took Percy to the store. They went to get candies and pop. They paid for their stuff and came back home. They went inside and got settled. Brian stood up and lit a Newport. He had the cigarette hanging from his mouth. Brian went to Percy’s room and sat on one side of the bed.
“Percy, come here, man,” said Brian.
Percy is five years old. He did not anticipate what was about to happen to him. Percy sat by his father and noticed what was about to happen. Brian slid his hand between Percy’s legs and felt his son’s penis getting harder and harder. Percy tried to resist, but Brian kept trying him. Brian tossed Percy onto the bed and took his pants and underwear off. Percy screamed and stopped him.
“Get off me!” yelled Percy.
Brian quickly looked at his son and got up off him. He snatched his sandals and got off the bed. He smacked the door hard. Percy still wore his shirt but was naked from the waist down. He sat on his bed with his arms buried over his face. He wondered why he did this to me.
After the molestation took place, Percy grew apart from his father. He did not trust him anymore, because he took his innocence from him. He walked out of his room one morning. Brian sat watching television smoking a Newport. The cigarette between his fingers, Brian took his finger and pointed to Percy.
“Come here, boy!” yelled Brian.
Percy did not pay attention to his father and went back to his room. He lay on top of his bed. He did not let tears run down his face. He knew it was time to leave. It just had to happen, because if he stayed with his father, things would get worst.
Percy went to sleep and thought about the day his father molested him. He figured that he left and stayed with his mother, things would get better. He went to sleep, and it helped Brian opened his son’s door and was not heard. He looked over his son while sleeping in his bed.
He figured that he left and stayed with his mother, things would get better. He went to sleep.
After fourteen years living with his dad, one day while his dad went to sleep, he started packing. He went to the living room and took two Newport’s. He went out to go home to his mother. He shut the door so his dad did not get disturbed, or Brian might realize his son was leaving him. Percy was glad to get out the house off this table by his dad.)
Once he reached his mother's house, his mom stood out her door, waiting for her son to get here. She hugged him and took him inside.
"How are you, baby?" asked his mom.
"I'm having some things on my mind," answered Percy.
“Seems something is wrong; tell me baby,” said his mom.
“My dad has been molesting me, since I was five,” said Percy.
His mom was shocked her husband of twenty years had molested their son; Percy had three sisters and two brothers. He was the head of the family. Her husband damaged her son. It only brought herself shame. Joan hugged her baby.
“Oh, baby; I’m sorry,” said his mom.
The phone rang.
"Hello?" asked his mom.
"Baby, where's Percy?" asked Brian.
"He's here; what do you want?" asked Joan.
"I just wanted to know where he went. I'm coming over," mentioned Brian.
Brian drove his Volkswagon over to his wife's house. He got out and went inside his wife's house. He was dressed in a yellow summer dress shirt; long dress pants, socks, and brown sandals. He also wore cologne and lit up a Newport. Brian came to the door.
"Baby," Brian knocked on the door. "Open up!"
Joan dealt with the wet washcloth in her hand and went back to the kitchen.
"Just a second,” said Joan.
"Is this important?" asked Brian.
"No, you better." Brian paused. And Percy came into the mix. Brian breathed in and out.
"I'm sorry, son."
Brian got to see his son finally.
"No, mom I'll be in the room," said Percy.
"Okay, baby," said Joan.
Percy went into the room.
"Let's sit down," said Joan.
Joan and Brian sat down to talk about what happened.
“What happened to my son?” asked his wife.
“I came into my son’s room. He was nervous to see me in there. I was just talking to him. He sat next to me and I placed my hand between his legs. Okay, I touched him, okay and he got scared,” explained Brian.
“So, why did you stop, then?” worried Joan.
"No, I was wrong," said Brian.
"You're right. I should have never left you," said Joan.
“Okay, so it’s my fault? Right?” said Brian.
Brian sat back on the couch and finished his cigarette.
“No, you know what you did. I want Percy to stay here for a while,” said Joan.
“No, he can’t stay here,” said Brian.
Percy opened the door and told his dad off.
“Dad, I want to stay here,” barked Percy.
"I want Percy to stay here for a while," said Joan.
“Okay, I have to go,” said Brian.
Percy and Joan followed him and crowded him. He stopped in the middle of the door.
“Listen, I love you Percy. I just want to say I’m sorry, what I did. I can’t take back what I did but I know that I want to be in your life,” said Brian.
“The damage is done!” With that, Percy went back to his room.
Brian finishes his cigarette, threw it out, and went to his car. Joan looked at her husband and shed a tear. After twenty years, was this incident really going to end their marriage? Percy was a quiet kid and never wanted to see his parents get a divorce, because he was molested. Brian stopped by his car and shed a tear.
Brian turned his back and looked at his wife. He opened up his Volkswagon door, got inside, started the ignition, opened his Newport 100s, popped a cigarette in his mouth, lit it, and smoked. Brian closed his door and pulled off.
Joan went inside and sat down in her kitchen chair. She cried and threw her glass on the floor. Percy heard the glass and opened his door. He hugged his mother.
Brian sat down. He wore a white beater shirt, blue swoosh pants, and brown sandals. He looked at his family photos. He looked at his son's baby pictures. He figures what he missed and how much he meant as a son.

Feelings Poem
Mad, Happy, Sad
All expressed facts of me
My faces darkens, frowns or smiles
People know how I feel on what they see
Deep inside my soul how I feel
Ignoring what people say or do
It is just bringing negativity
How people never know me well
If people have a heart to care about my feelings
All expressed facts of me
My faces darkens, frowns or smiles
People know how I feel on what they see
Deep inside my soul how I feel
Ignoring what people say or do
It is just bringing negativity
How people never know me well
If people have a heart to care about my feelings

When I Love
When I love let me just say I love you
When I love humans that love me
When I love haters who don’t love me
When I love God for what he did for me
When I love the demon because he doesn’t
When I love doubt it does change me
When I love experience it make me see different
When I love life it taught me more
When I love myself it get me through
When I love humans that love me
When I love haters who don’t love me
When I love God for what he did for me
When I love the demon because he doesn’t
When I love doubt it does change me
When I love experience it make me see different
When I love life it taught me more
When I love myself it get me through

Brothers Stand Strong
"Mom, where's my white beater shirt?" said seventeen year old Jarvis, who was in a hurry for school.
"It's in the cabinet, your brother left it there," said his mom, Rosa.
"Why would he...Roni!"
But his brother putting his white beater shirt in the cabinet did not amuse Jarvis.
"Class clown, hey?"
As they left, Jarvis and Roni kissed their mom said their good byes and left.
"Another day, another utility bill on my mind, blesses me Lord that I find a job soon."
At Millow High School, everyone from the football and basketball team recognized the boy Jarvis Johnson.
"What did you say?" asked Jarvis.
"I'm going to class," said Chantal.
Chantal went to class, but Jarvis was late for class. They were both late.
"Well, well, well Mr. Johnson and Miss Jones, why are you late and don't give me any crap about how you got stopped by the assistant principal. I just talked to him," said Mr. Stumble.
"So I'll see you after school, take your seats."
"Okay!" Jarvis found it amusing but not his girl.
"Jarvis, step in the hall."
"But I'm on the football team."
“Lateness equals consequence."
"You don't get it, do you?" asked Mr. Stumble.
"Do you?" laughed Jarvis.
At dinner, Jarvis forgot about football for the day, and his mom kept the conversation going about school.
"Nothing much except making the football team today," said Jarvis.
Jarvis went to take his plate away to the sink in the kitchen.
As the conflict between Mr. Stumble and Jarvis seemed to boil over, Jarvis continued to be on the football team.
Jarvis used his cell phone to call his mom.
"That's great baby," said his mom excitedly.
"Mom, stop calling me baby. I know you love me," said Jarvis.
"I'm just so happy that you really have the classes this year. You are doing so well. Your father would've been so proud."
Once he hung up the phone, Manuel Ramirez (Jarvis' friend) stopped him.
"Hey man, what's wrong?" asked Manuel.
"Ah...I lost my notes for Mrs. Serena's class, do you have yours?" asked Jarvis.
"Let me check. My wave cap, grease for my waves, a picture of my daughter, nope."
Manuel came over and hugged Jarvis.
Manuel always says man a lot, and it is cool! He can say that and own the word, man.
Manuel and Jarvis went to class, and everything that he told him everything was going to be all right.
At football tryouts, Coach Cruise told the players about how he used to play professional football and played for the Seahawks back in Florida.
He appeared on Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, the CW, ESPN, and also appeared on many television shows like Maury, Jay Leno, and ESPN series: "Pardon for Interruption" and "Cold Pizza."
The boys were trained how to under run players with the ball and throw over tosses from the center point to and from the quarterback line.
"Pick up your feet, Charlie! Pick up your feet, Charlie!" yelled Coach Cruise.
"Crap, I can't...I'm tired," said Jarvis anxiously.
"Sit up, sit up, look I know that maybe if you put some body into it you would've been tired. Sit out man," told Coach Cruise.
After practice, the boys went to the locker room to change and leave.
Jarvis' coach was disappointed he was not trying. He was kicking him off the team. He gave his mom a call and she wondered if there was a way that she could get him back on the team.
"Jarvis?" said his mom.
He sighed. "Yes ma'am?"
"I talked to Mr. Who?"
"Coach Cruise?"
"Right, your coach called me; something about you got kicked off the team."
"Yeah, it's not like he just found the talent he needed."
"I know, I know believing in God has made many opportunities for us, if we want to succeed, we have to move forward and go where God leads us," said his mom.
"I'm really tired of how all this about God and how today there was no lucky for me, maybe you should find a way out for us."
Jarvis took a bus to school at five in the afternoon to see all the talk about how football tryouts went.
"Okay boys, I'll see you guys tomorrow," said Coach Cruise.
"So Mr. Johnson what did your mom say?"
"We got into a fight, so I don't know," said Jarvis.
"I'm not surprised."
"I'll talk to you in the morning about what we're going to do."
"Night coach," said Jarvis.
"Hey Manuel, did you made the football team?" asked Jarvis.
"Yeah, did you?" told Manuel.
"The coach will tell me in the morning, hey want to come over, play football?"
"Sure."
Roni was over Old Man Hunt's house talking to him. Jarvis and Manuel pulled up by Old Man Hunt's house and they had words to each other.
"Man, why you're talking to my brother?" yelled Jarvis.
"No, let it go," said Roni.
"Yeah, let it go and tell your mom to..." Old Man Hunt punched Jarvis spitting in his yard.
"You ever spit on my yard, I'll mess you up like I did your daddy!" yelled Old Man Hunt.
"Come on, Jarvis!" panicked Roni.
"Bring it in, bring it in!" yelled Coach Cruise.
All the players came around Coach Cruise, listening to him about what a great football season they had.
"I'm really; really happy that I had a great group of guys, who came, got everything done during the season and went out there; and proved to me excellence for any circumstances, made our season great," said Coach Cruise.
"It's not what's inside of a sport; privileges in a sport makes it worth your chances to succeed into other sports," said Jarvis.
The football season was over; basketball season starts in a few weeks.
Coach Cruise stopped Jarvis.
"Have a great year," said Coach Cruise.
The Johnson's ate Pizza Hut for dinner, they were joking and reminiscing.
"Jarvis, you coming to bed?" asked Roni.
"Yeah in a minute," said Jarvis.
Jarvis dialed Manuel's number.
"Hello---is Manuel home?" asked Jarvis, talking to Manuel's girlfriend, Jennifer.
"Yeah, he's here." Jennifer gave Manuel the phone. "Here."
"Hello?" said Manuel.
"Hey-hey, what's up brother?"
"Nothing much man, you?"
Jarvis sensed what had been going on with Manuel; Jarvis knew Manuel had owed some money to Jose. "I heard you were in some kind of problem."
Jarvis reported for basketball the next day.
"Alright, rules for the team," said Coach Ramsey.
All the boys looked at the set of rules.
• Need to be on time for practice each day and penalty will advance you to be kicked off the team.
That’s something he won’t accept from any players. If you miss a game, he will make you sign a document.
Jarvis met up with Coach Ramsey.
"Heard you were getting a call tonight?" asked Coach Ramsey.
"That's right," answered Jarvis.
"I want to hear about it, soon as you get some news."
Jarvis left school and went home to wait for his call from ESPN.
"Many great people out in this world have dreams. My son, Jarvis, you are going after your dream, like a dove soaring to find home," said his mom.
Jarvis walked in front of his house with Manuel, clearing his head.
"I am the only figure in my family to keep the family stronger. I'll be back," said Jarvis.
"You want something, Roni?" asked Jarvis.
"ESPN, called," said Roni.
"I'll see you later," said Manuel.
Jarvis went inside and went by the phone.
Rosa pulled up by the house; Rosa came from the store.
"Hey, Ms. Johnson," said Manuel.
"Hey Manuel, where's Jarvis?" asked Rosa.
Jarvis Johnson is about to be on the Penn State team.
The person who made Jarvis play basketball was his dad. Jarvis can't even think of enough things to describe basketball, its going to make him famous one day. Roni looks up to his brother because when he leaves and lives on his own, then he'll pursue his own career. Jarvis drove his mom's car to his father's grave to pay respects.
Roni answered the door for Pastor Bailey.
"Okay, thank you baby," said Rosa.
"Hi, Pastor Bailey, come in."
"Oh, it's my job to say "I will!" laughed Pastor Bailey.
"Roni, can you go get Pastor Bailey some water?"
"Okay."
"Well, where's Jarvis?" asked Pastor Bailey.
"He's at his dad’s grave site," said Rosa.
Roni gave Pastor Bailey his glass of water.
Once Rosa sat down on the couch, Pastor Bailey kept looking into Rosa's eyes; he still believes she has not let the pain of her husband's death go.
The next morning, Rosa left to school.
"Mom, what's wrong?" asked Jarvis.
"Nothing," said Rosa.
The next morning, Pastor Bailey came by Rosa's house.
"Who it is?" asked Rosa.
"Pastor Bailey! Well! I thought I'd come over, probably you need some company," said Pastor Bailey.
"I'll open if you." Rosa opened the door.
"No, I don't need any company."

Only seconds in the half left.
Soon later, Jarvis made a foul shot.
"Personal foul, number seventeen!” yelled the guard.
The coach called Jarvis.
"Jarvis, remember to make that perfect basket in the hoop, got it?"
"Got it," said Jarvis.
Only seconds in the game left.
In Jarvis' mind he thought.
"Basket, basket got to make that basket a win."
Penn State won.
The first game was at Indiana State.
Before the game, Manuel came over to Jarvis and said, "I'll just take my problem somewhere else so you won't get involved."
"Jose wants more money, does he?" asked Jarvis.
"Yeah, but I'm not giving him any more money."
"If he finds you or anywhere you might possibly get to, he'll kill you about his money."
"Just---don't."
Jarvis wanted to say more but he just gave in and said, "Okay."
Once Manuel left, Janelle came in.
"What happened?" asked Janelle.
"Boy stays in trouble," Joked Janelle.
At the start of the game, Indiana State's Michael Smith tried not to serve Jarvis the ball.
Guards, television producers, television viewers, announcers and both teams saw Jarvis Johnsonmissed a basket and made his team lose the game.
Back in the locker room, the coach was unimpressed with Jarvis.
"Look Johnson, losing your friend can't help us win the NCAA Finals. This is the second game, guys," mentioned the coach.
After the game, Jarvis left to go home.
The coach called Jarvis, he missed a lot of games; Jarvis needed game days off because he was concerned about Manuel.
"Hey buddy, why are you at practice?" asked the coach.
"That's a good thing you called me---I need a couple of game days off," said Jarvis.
"About two?" asked Jarvis.
"Alright," said the coach.
Jarvis read the message Manuel left on his cell phone.
It read:
Just wanted to let you know---
Manuel
Jennifer took Jarvis home to change clothes.
"What happened?" asked Rosa.
"Manuel got kidnapped," said Jarvis.
"Jesus."
Jarvis got dressed, got into the car, and told his mom he and Jennifer will be back once they find Manuel at the factory.
Jarvis went inside Jennifer's closet to see how much money she had in her bank.
"How much do you want out of here?" asked
"Just get all of it," told Jennifer.
Pastor Bailey got out of his car.
"You want to take a ride?" asked Pastor Bailey.
"Yes," said Rosa.
Then the two pulled away.
Jarvis and Jennifer got Lovely and took her over to Roni's house after they leave there; they will give Jose some money to keep Manuel alive. The most vital thing they could imagine is Manuel may be dead right now.
"I want to help him," said Jarvis.
"Just when the last time you seen Manuel?" asked Jennifer.
"Who did you play that night?"
Jennifer got over to the house to drop lovely off.
"Thank you for watching Lovely," said Jennifer.
Rosa came back to change because Pastor Bailey was waiting for her. The two of them will go out and talk.
5:30 P.M.
"It's no difference if he was here or not; I want my sons to do anything they want," said Rosa.
"Jarvis is a fantastic basketball player, his father and what...what does Roni want to be?" Pastor Bailey looked puzzled.
"I thought Roni wanted to become a comedian?"
"Robin Johnson, my husband, was around my boys a lot. Robin and Jarvis would go outside, through the park and play basketball on warm days," said Rosa.
"He spent anytime with Roni?" asked Pastor Bailey.
"Yes, the time when Roni needed somebody to take his place in a play but older than my husband was, he stepped in.
"What a man."
Jennifer arrived at the factory, she was giving Jose his money, but by the time she got inside, BOOM! A gunshot fired.
Rosa and Pastor Bailey went out again tonight. Marlon is a pastor at a church. Pastor Bailey thought about another chance at marriage that after the death of her husband, she could never be married again.
"You guys should get married," told Roni.
"Look, even me and Pastor Bailey got married---something you won't be worried about for now," told Rosa.
After church Sunday, Marlon came by Rosa's.
"Rosa, Rosa!" yelled Marlon.
Rosa got out of bed, and went to the door.
"Great," complained Rosa.
"Can I come in?" asked Marlon.
"Sure."
Marlon walked in her house and sat down on her couch.
"Look, I really thought you did not want to be rush into a marriage right now?" asked Marlon.
"Yes I said that."
"When I turned sixteen and God was in my life, there was no way God wanted me to become a pastor."
"How much would I find---a knife?"
He pulled the bloody knife out of Jose's pocket.
"I did it used that knife on nobody."
The police car came.
"Get on your feet!" yelled the cop.
The police officer cuffed Jose in handcuffs.
"You'll be in for questioning and you'll be charged with murder, involvement charge with money and the knife!"
Florida won the NCAA (National Collegiate Athlete Association.)
"Team hustle up!" yelled the coach.
"Even if we don't win today, we're still winners."
"Right, coach we're here to play and win," said Jarvis.
"Let's do it...one, two, three Penn State!"
The crowd was cheering.
"We are losing, coach," worried Jarvis.
"I know, but we need to come back with resentment," said the coach.
Jarvis falls and makes the shot.
"Get up, get up, get up!" clapped the coach.
Florida scored again.
"Darn!" yelled Jarvis.
Jarvis looked over at Florida's team.
"There's our rival, Manuel," said Jarvis.
"That's our team we need to beat!" demanded Manuel.
"It's the NCAA Finals at the Madison Square Garden here in New York," announced Maxwell Bowen, reporter of ESPN.
"This is a surprise for Jarvis Johnson's return to the team Penn State at the NCAA Finals," announced Martha Sue, also a reporter for ESPN.
"Last year, Florida won, will Florida win again or will Penn State.
The guard threw the ball up in the air from his hand, beginning the game.
The score is going by fifteen; Florida was catching up and Penn State was behind.
"Time out, time out!" yelled the coaches.
The team players ran to their sidelines where the coaches were.
We are losing by five points and Jarvis---give it to them," said the coach.
"That's right! One, two, three Penn State!" they yelled.
The points kept going up and up, Penn State shined up two points in the fourth half, leaving twelve for Florida.
"This is it; it's on any of these teams to win; I vote for Penn State," said Maxwell.
"Me, especially, even though Jarvis Johnson had been away from the team, he is shining out there today," said Martha.
Everyone got quiet.
Jarvis made the final basket...and the buzzer rings.
"Penn State wins!" yelled the announcers.
Marlon, Rosa and Roni ran from off the benches and joined them.
"Yeah, we won, we won!" yelled Roni.
"It is a great honor and achievement...Jarvis Johnson of the team Penn State," said Maxwell.
Everyone clapped.
"Thank you, thank you---this really meant to my father. I thank my father," said Jarvis.
"That was a wonderful speech you made," said Marlon.
"Yeah, dad's ghost heard you!" laughed Roni.
"Stop making that up!" complained Jarvis.
"Good, son," Roni's voice sounded deep.
"Jarvis, excellent season, next year?" asked the coach.
"Absolutely," said Jarvis.
"Hey man, you were great out there," said Janelle.
Marlon, Jarvis, Roni and Rosa left and celebrated.
"What---what can I say, this win is not only for my father, but to Manuel," said Jarvis.
During the drive home, Jarvis noticed an empty space. He wanted to fulfill his father's dream opening up a center.
"The Robin Johnson Center," thought Jarvis.
"What?" he asked
"With all the money I have now, remember that open space I looked at on the way home, which can be a basketball center for teenage boys without fathers."
"I can see you should spend your money towards that open space right now."
Jarvis went down to the city board the next day.
"I saw a space up for rent, can I have it?" asked Jarvis.
"And what street is this space on?" asked the woman.
"The space is on 2610. Vine Street."
"That space cost thousand of dollars, perfect to get now than wait until winter."
"I'll take it."
Roni, Marlon and Jarvis went down to fix the open space.
They bought in
*Brand new hoops
*Rackets
*Brand new and used basketballs
*A picture of the founder (Robin Johnson)
Later that night, after Jarvis, Roni, and Marlon got home; Rosa came from the kitchen, with dinner prepared for the guys. Marlon next, proposed to Rosa.
She accepted his proposal from her new man.
The Robin Johnson center was luring many teenage boys from the streets, after the summer ended and school began.
"You the owner?" asked Jamaal.
"Yes," Jarvis replied.
"It's good to meet you, Jamaal."
They shook hands.
Later that night, Jarvis was featured on the news.
"Tonight, I'm up to the story about a courageous teenage boy Jarvis Johnson. I'm here by the Robin Johnson Center where teenage boys can come to play basketball.
The center uplifts teenage boys for a place after school. I'm here with the owner Jarvis Johnson. Jarvis, who did you, name this place after and why?" asked the woman reporter.
"I named this center after my father. My father taught me that the game of basketball is not created by God; the main creation of basketball is how well you practice every day and consistently being good at it. I want to give these teenage boys a chance to come and play basketball, this center is the only place they can be around other boys without fathers in their lives," said Jarvis.
"And I hope your center expands one of the biggest organizations of the U.S."
"We watched you on television, Jarvis."
Roni shook and hugged his brother. "You are on your way."
Jarvis helped his father an enormous step.
Jarvis met up the coach; the season was over; Penn State won the NCAA Finals. This was the first time Penn State won the NCAA (National Collegiate Athlete Association.) He put it to work and the quest became achieved Marlon and Rosa are supporting Jarvis with his basketball career.
Next year, Jarvis will look forward attending college in Pennsylvania. Jarvis is so proud of himself, taking what his father said about basketball and really making it sound like basketball does take a lot of practice and being good at it.
Jarvis woke up and got a call about coming down to the center and finalize papers off his center. Don't forget the money! Jarvis' center opened up at nine in the morning, school was still in session and around three-thirty, kids filled the place. Marlon came into see Jarvis needed help up.
"Need help?" asked Marlon.
"Yes." Jarvis picked the tub full of brand new basketballs and statues inside the place. "Can you help me?"
Marlon set the place up.
Roni was not ready to become a comedian, while chewing down a pepperoni pizza.
"I don't want to be a comedian, Jarvis," told Roni.
"Give me some kind of reason you don't want to be a comedian? I thought you wanted to become a comedian?" asked Jarvis.
"Jarvis, you are a basketball player and attending college."
Roni in the beginning, no clue what he wanted to do with his career changed. Roni can still be a comedian but the idea shifted from this to a new front for Roni's new career. Roni now wants to become...
Roni dialed Jarvis' number.
"I'm still here putting away balls," said Jarvis.
Roni wants Jarvis to tell about his father and why the center was started in the first place. How about the story Old Man Hunt?
Jarvis came inside the door, explained to Old Man Hunt killed their father.
Robin came back from his day job. Old Man Hunt sat on his porch.
"I don't know this man." Robin tried to avoid Old Man Hunt. "What he want with me?" Robin dropped his bag and pace over to Old Man Hunt's porch.
Old Man Hunt attracts his gun and the two charged.
The gun fired.
Roni was in shocked by his father's death.
"Man, why did that happen?" asked Jarvis.
"I could not tell you Old Man Hunt or the conflict," said Rosa.
"Dad got killed on his way back from the grocery store?" asked Roni.
"Gun down or gun faced?" asked Jarvis.
"Gun down," answered Rosa.
Jarvis and Roni argue babbling back and forth about the death of their father. Losing a love one can change so much in your life. Promoted, presented, and persevere helped them move away from ambiguity.
This story shows how the death of Jarvis has promoted, presented, and persevered all their lives.
"Okay."

Percy Brooks lived in a rough neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His parents, Brian and Joan Brooks, have been marriaged for a long time.
He also sells incense and his son, Percy helps him.
He figured if he left and stayed with his mother, things would get better. He went to sleep.
After fourteen years living with his dad, one day while his dad went to sleep, he started packing. He went to the living room and took two Newports. He went out to go home to his mother. He shut the door so his dad did not get disturbed, or Brian might realize his son was leaving him. Percy was glad to get out the house. (Off this table by his dad.)
Once he reached his mother's house, his mom stood out her door, waiting for her son to get here. She hugged him and took him inside.
"How are you, baby?" asked his mom.
"I'm having some things on my mind," answered Percy.
He was dressed in a yellow summer dress shirt, long dress pants, socks, and brown sandals. He also wore cologne and lit up a Newport. Brian came to the door.
"Baby," Brian knocked on the door. "Open up!"
Joan dealt with the wet washcloth in her hand and went back to the kitchen.
"Just a second." Joan came to the door. "Here."
"Is this important?" asked Brian.
"No, you better." Brian paused. And Percy came into the mix. Brian breathed in and out. Breathed in and out.
"I'm sorry, son."
Brian got to see his son finally.
"No, mom; I'll be in the room," said Percy.
"Okay, baby," said Joan.
Percy went into the room.
"Let's sit down," said Joan. Joan and Brian sat down to talk about what happened.
"No, I was wrong," said Brian.
"You're right. I should have never left you," said Joan.
Brian sat back on the couch and finished his cigarette.
"I want Percy to stay here for a while," said Joan.
Percy opened the door.
Brian finishes his cigarette, threw it out, and went to his car.
Brian turned his back and looked at his wife. He opened up his Volkswagon door, got inside, started the ingition, opened his Newport 100s, popped a cigarette in his mouth, lit it, and smoked. Brian closed his door and pulled off.
Joan went inside and sat down in her kitchen chair. She cried and threw her glass on the floor. Percy heard the glass and opened his door. He rushed over to his mother, hugged and cried with her.
Brian sat down. He wore a white beater shirt, blue swoosh pants, and brown sandals. He looked at his family photos. He looked at his son's baby pictures. He just looked at the pictures. He kept looking at it.
Percy and his mother had dinner . They ate chicken, corn, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rice. Percy finally wanted to tell his mother he wanted to leave. Percy was starting his freshman year in high school.
"Mom, I want to leave," said Percy.
"Why?" asked his mom.
"I'm just ready to leave," answered Percy.
Percy excused himself from dinner and went packing. He smoked the last Newport out of his bag. Brian went to the gas station to get him a pack of Newport 100s.
"Can I get a pack of Newport 100s, please?" asked Brian.
"One pack of Newports, one pack of Newport 100s, sir?" asked the clerk.
"Yes, please," answered Brian.
The clerk gave Brian his cigarettes, and Brian handed the clerk his change.
"Thank you," said Brian.
It was the first day of high school. Percy attended Millow High School. He had a friend named Daniel. Daniel and Percy kept smoking marijuana and kept passing the blunt around and were high. It was some good blunt.
Daniel took Percy to get his bag from his mother's house because Percy was living with his friend. Percy went inside his mother's house and went to the back getting his bags. Joan was sad but was happy for him. Then, Percy went to his dad. When Percy came into his dad's door, Brian pushed his son to the wall.
"Where you been?" asked Brian.
"Oh, dad, why did you do that?" asked Percy.
"Now, why did you come over here?" Brian put his hands on his son. "Where you been??!!"
"No, dad." Percy left out the door. "You can't hurt me no more."
Brian stood in the door, with the screen door open. He looked, turned his head, and he looked at his son again. He was pissed because his son decided to show up this long and it made their relationship worse. Percy got into the car and was quiet.
"You okay?" asked his friend, Daniel.
"I'm good; I'm going to be fine," said Percy.
Daniel drove off.
Later, Percy moved into his friend's house and got settled in. Daniel wore a grey university shirt, blue jeans, and Nike sneakers. Daniel lay on his bed and picked up his blunt and lit it up. He passed the blunt to Percy.
"No, man, not right now," said Percy.
After what happened today, all he wanted to do is sleep. So, he had Daniel get up, so Percy could lay down and go to sleep. It's been a long day. Daniel went out to smoke his blunt. Daniel put out his blunt after he finished and went in the house.
At school, he met this girl named Kim. She's beautiful with black long and short hair and a brown complexion. She like Percy.
"Hi, Percy. How are you?" asked Kim.
"I'm doing good, and you?" asked Percy.
"You know, you have been really nice to me," said Kim.
"Thanks!" said Percy.
After time passed, Percy and Kim been dating for a while.
Kim felt her stomach was getting big. So, Kim went to the doctor and the doctor said she was pregnant with her first child. Kim called Percy to tell him the good news. Percy was happy about the new baby. She wanted to named their child Percy. The sex of the baby is a boy. She went with her mom and got clothes for the baby. She prepared a place for her baby.
Weeks later, Kim had her baby named Percy Kyles Brooks. The baby had his father's last name. Percy showed up at the hospital to see his baby's birth. He felt home to Daniel. He told him about the baby and what it looked like.
The baby looked just like him because he also had curly hair. Percy started his homework and read a good book. His mom checked on him to see if he was okay.
"You okay?" asked his mom.
"I'm fine," answered Percy.
She shut the door.
Percy and Kim moved in their new house with another oom for his mom. His mom has been supporting him. Percy Kyles is now nine years old. Joan looks older but prettier. She has blonde short hair and she has thicker eyebrows.
"Oh, I love this place. Is this room for me?" asked Joan.
"It's yours, mom," said Percy.
"Thank you, son," Joan kissed her son. "Thanks."
"You're welcome," said Percy.
"This is our new house," said Kim.
Percy called his father to check out his house.
"Hello?" His dad is now forty-one years old now. "Is this Percy?"
"Yes, sir."
"Hi, son. Are you in your new house?" asked Brian.
"Yes, sir," replied Percy.
"I'm coming over, bye son," said Brian.
"Bye, dad." Percy hung the phone up.
Brian looked a lot better. He was still bald headed and wore glasses. He still liked to wear his shirt open but lost some weight. He used to weigh 190 pounds. Now, he weighs a nice 170 pounds.
Brian drove his new Cadilliac over to his son's house. He traded his old Volkswagon to get his new Cadilliac. He trades new cars every year. He likes to get new fashion cars every year. It's not about how much money or expensive it is, he just likes to drive a new fashion model car.
He drove a Cadilliac.
Dad rung the door bell.
"Hey, son," said his dad.
"Hi, dad," said Percy.
They hugged each other.
"Come in," said Percy.
Brian met Percy's girlfriend of three years.
"It's nice to meet you." Brian extended his hand to Percy's girlfriend Kim.
"Oh, nice to meet you, Mr. Brooks."
All smiled up Kim replied.
Joan started dinner and she was happy to see her family together again. They suffered a lot and they are stronger than ever before.
After that, they sat down for dinner. They had spaghetti, salad, and garlic breadstick. They munch and had a good time.
Percy was new than ever before. Percy wore a blue short sleeve jersey with 22 on the back, his pants were not sagging because he was having respect for himself and he wore blue jeans, and fresh new high-top Nike Air Force Ones. He smokes Newport 100s. He also has waves in his hair.
Percy turned twenty-six and he went and got his G.E.D He went to school both day and night. He went to his instructor class one day.
"Okay, you guys have twenty minutes to take this test, good luck. Go!" said the administrator.
Percy began his test and worked on it until time was up. He felt he aced his test and he really wanted to get his G.E.D. because he wanted to do so much. He had little of finishing school but he regret it. He was hurt and there was pain with his parents at the time. He has a girlfriend who loves him and his son is who inspire him to do right by.
The time was up.
"Okay, you can stop your test, please," said the admissioner.
Percy went back home to his girlfriend and his son, Percy Kyles. Kim had something to tell her boyfriend.
"I'm pregnant!" excited Kim.
"Congrats! I took my test today, " said Percy.
"When will you know the results?" asked his girlfriend.
"Tonight." Percy looked at his girlfriend pregnant body. "I took my G.E.D."
Kim was six months pregnant.
Percy went to go find out if he got his G.E.D.
"Congratulations, Mr. Brooks, you passed," said the administrator.
"Wow, thanks," said Percy.
Percy used his cell phone and called his girlfriend.
"I passed." Percy waited for a response.
"Good job, baby," said Kim.
Percy called his parents and told them the newa.
Percy, the next morning, came out on the porch and got out his pack of Newport 100s. He put a Newport in his mouth, took his lighter, lit up and smoked. He puffed a smoke. His girlfriend interrupts him.
"Hi," said Kim.
"Hey," said Percy.
Percy and Kim talked some more.
Early one morning in March, Joan's husband came over. Brian came inside dressed in a yellow short sleeve shirt, white dress shorts and Nike flip-flops.
"I'm very glad you and Percy talking again." Joan went to the kitchen and poured some orange juice for her and her husband.
"Here you are."
"Thank you." Brian drinks his oranger juice. "My son got his G.E.D. Percy called me."
He finished his juice. Brian opened his pack of Newport 100s, put the cigarette in his mouth, took out his lighter, cuffed his hands around the lighter, lit up, and smoked. The cigarette was burning between his fingers while he talked to his wife.
"You know, Kim's pregnant?" asked Brian.
"Yes, she's doing fine," said Joan.
Brian puffed on his cigarette and blew smoke.
"Does she know the sex?" asked Brian.
"No." Joan took her ash tray and gave it to Brian using his cigarette while smoking on the table.
"It's great we are going to be grandparents again. Little Percy is cute."
Joan went to her room to get her photos of her family and bought the photos into the room to look at them with her husband, Brian.
"Let me see." Brian lay his burning cigarette in the ash tray. "Wow, he is cute, how old was he?"
"He was a baby," answered Joan.
Brian looked at his grandson's baby photos while he smoked.
Brian puts out his cigarette in the ash tray.
Back at Kim's house, she talked to her boyfriend and Percy finished smoking and threw the cigarette out.
Kim finally told her boyfriend the sex of the baby and it's a girl.
"Oh!" yelled Kim.
"Oh, my baby, come on." Percy ran behind her, and helped her up to the car.
Percy drove while on the way, he called his parents to come to the hospital. Brian ran to the phone.
"Hello." Brian had a Newport 100s in his hand burning. "Percy, where you at?"
"We're heading to the hospital. Kim is about to have the baby," explained Percy.
"Your mother and I will be up there as soon as we can," said Brian.
Joan and Brian got into his new 2006 Ford Explorer. Brian drove to the hospital. They parked in the hospital parking lot. Brian and Joan went inside the entrance and reported to the desk.
"Where's my baby?" asked Joan.
"In Room 220, ma'am," said the nurse.
"Thank you, ma'am," said Brian.
Brian and Joan entered the room. Brian came close to Kim and touched her belly. Joan walked over and listened to her belly.
"I can hear the baby," excited Joan.
The nurse walked in.
"Okay, it's time for the pushing," said the nurse.
Kim sat up and waited for what to do next.
"Okay, I need you to sit up. Mrs, if you could hold her hand," said the nurse.
"Okay." Joan felt scared but was ready to see her granddaughter be born. "I'm ready."
Percy and Brian crowded around Kim's hospital bed while she gave birth. Kim kept pushing her baby and the head came out. The doctors remove the baby's body out of the womb. Their second child, baby girl named Aleigha Elane Brooks. Brian holds his granddaughter.
"It's nice seeing you." Brian playing with her. "She's cute."
Aleigha made a nice cry.
Joan clapped her hands in joy and cried. Percy looked at the baby. Brian gave Kim her baby back. Kim played with her baby. The family was at peace.
Three weeks later,
Joan, Brian, and Percy were sitting at home, Kim held her baby in her arms, and Percy wanted to say something.
"What?" Kim went to put the baby in her crib and walked out the room. "Yes?"
"Mom," said young Percy.
"Baby, do mom a favor and watch your sister, okay?" told Kim.
"Yes, ma'am," said Percy.
"Get her bag and her diapers," said Kim.
Percy told young Percy to stay there. Young Percy grab the bag and diapers and the family went to the room where the new baby was resting her little body. Percy pulled a wedding ring out.
"You changed my life. I just want to know is...will you marry me?" asked Percy.
"Yes!" yelled Kim.
Kim kissed Percy. Brian, young Percy, and Joan hugged each other. Kim and Percy's wedding plans were in order.
Two weeks later,
The wedding ceremony took place. Brian and Joan looked lovely; Brian dressed in a red Stacy Adams suit and red Stacy Adams dress shoes; Joan in a beautiful red short maid of honor dress, waiting for her daughter-in-law to arrive. Everybody took their place for the ceremony. Percy's father was best man and was on the other side of Percy. Percy was waiting for his bride.
Kim walked down the walk way, arms tucked with her father. Kim sighed but knew Percy was there for her. The pastor was waiting for her to face her fiancee. Percy's mother was her maid of honor and so, were her sisters and mother.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today for the marriage of Kim Kyles and Percy Brooks. Now, take each other's hands. Percy, do you take Kim to be your lawful wedded wife?" asked the pastor.
"Yes, I do," answered Percy.
"Kim, do you take Percy to be your lawful wedded husband?" asked the pastor.
"Yes, I do," answered Kim.
"Can you both take the rings, please?" The pastor gave the rings to Percy and Kim. "Now, repeat after me, you both, with this ring?"
"With this ring," Percy and Kim replied.
"I wed, to be husband and wife," said the pastor.
"I wed, to be husband and wife," Percy and Kim replied.
"Forever," added the pastor.
"Forever," Percy and Kim replied.
"By the power invested in me, I pronounce Percy and Kim husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," said the pastor.
Percy kissed his new bride. Everybody clapped. Brian hugged his son and Joan hugged Kim.
"Congrats, honey," said Joan.
"Thank you," said Kim.
Young Percy, the bride, Joan and their guest went to eat cake and entrees. Brian and Percy talked about things over cigarettes.
"I'm proud of you son," said Brian.
"Thanks, dad," said Percy.
"Your welcome." Brian pat his son's back. It's all good."
Brian and Percy greeted guests inside the wedding. The family took pictures and ate good food. They danced, sang and had a wonderful time. Brian clapped his hands and Joan had herself some fun. Everyone had a wonderful time at the wedding.
Two years later,
On Percy's birthday, he came over to his dad's house. He brought his son, Older Percy over to see his grandpa. Percy was not called "Young" Percy anymore. Percy's father calls him "Older" Percy because he was big now. He is fourteen now.
"Grandpa!" yelled Percy.
"Hey!" Brian with open hands and arms grabbed, picked him up and hugged him.
"How are you?" asked Percy.
"Good," answered Older Percy.
Percy stood there watching his son play with his grandfather.
"Why don't you go in my house, I made some chocolate chip cookies for you. How's that sound?" asked Brian.
"Thanks, Grandpa," Older Percy.
"You're welcome," mentioned Brian.
"Can I talk to you?" asked Percy.
"Sure," replied Brian.
"There something that's changed about you, you're a man. Everything that I did to you, I'm sorry," said Brian.
Brian and Percy locked palms with each other hands.

Brown Eyes
I am not sitting
Facing the mirror not telling
you about your brown eyes
when now I realized they
are brown
Facing the mirror not telling
you about your brown eyes

Don't Want to Let Go
Its Tuesday and it's snowing heavy outside and I could feel something wrong. I went outside to shovel the snow and feel my life was over. Damon got his coat, hat, mittens, work pants and boots. He shovel the 2 to 4 feet snow just to give him something to do. Damon has been thinking about his grandfather. Damon looked around as cars pass him. After Damon was done, Damon went to the back porch and stomp the cans. Damon's nose was running and he also had to make a path from the walk way to the garbage can.
Damon's mom received a call and shock her. Maybe Damon did not know what it was about. It was so cold. Damon's mom told him that his grandfather passed away. Damon was devastated and it was eating at him. Damon went to his room and sat down on his bed with tears in his eyes. On top of that, his grandfather's funeral was Saturday.
The next morning, Damon got on his knees and ask to watch over his father. His grandfather is everything to him. Damon heard his mom screaming on the phone.
"Why did you tell me he died!" asked his mother.
"Because we were doing it on purpose." said the recipient
"You bitch," said his mom.
She slam the phone down.
"Damon, I am sorry about what happen,' said his mom.
"It's okay and you don't have to blame yourself," said Damon.
Damon slept for hours because he need it. He was so drained and was at his last rope. His grades in school is bad. He had 2 F's and was sliding by. He wanted to miss school so he could take time to reflect.

What I'm Doing Now?
It's been a minute since I last write to you. I won't be here long but wanted to share about what I been up to recently. On Monday, I was in the newspaper and my picture was in there. The name of the paper is The Journal Gazette. It was me reading to the children. That night was the African American Read-In. It was so great to be there and hear people about reading what you want about your favorite history person.
